Affiliation scholarships

In addition to academic merit, affiliation scholarships usually require a connection to a specific club, trade union, company, geographic region or demographic group.

Eligibility

Each scholarship has different requirements. Award descriptions are listed on the application.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Have registered in at least 24 percentage-graded credits in the prior Winter Session
  • Be registered in at least 24 percentage-graded credits in the upcoming Winter Session
  • Have an average of at least 75% (with no failed or incomplete courses)
  • Meet the terms for awards eligibility set out in UBC Okanagan Campus Minimum Scholarship Course Load Requirement.

Exceptions

Courses in pass/fail or Credit/D/Fail format are considered.

Students from Non-UBC Post Secondary Institutions

If you are attending non-UBC post-secondary institution, read the award descriptions carefully to determine your eligibility. You must provide an official transcript showing the academic records for your previous academic year, as well as proof of registration for the upcoming academic year with your application.

Rick and Yasmin Thorpe and Friends Entrance Scholarship

The Rick and Yasmin Thorpe and Friends Entrance Scholarship assists students who are a graduate of or will be graduating from Summerland Secondary School, Penticton Secondary School, Princess Margaret Secondary School, or Penticton Christian Community School who register in full-time studies at UBC Okanagan in any one of the following programs: Management, Engineering, English, Creative Writing, Nursing, or Science. The scholarship provides entering students a one-year, non-renewable external entrance scholarship of $2,500.

Eligibility

Candidates for the scholarship must demonstrate the following criteria:

  • You are a strong academic student
  • You demonstrate financial need in the scholarship application
  • You are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • You are entering directly from one of the eligible high schools. This includes students who have taken an extended break between high school and university, provided you have not taken any post-secondary studies prior to attending UBC Okanagan
  • You are admissible and entering a valid UBC Okanagan program: Management, Engineering, English, Creative Writing, Nursing, or Science
  • You must meet the award criteria as outlined in the Senate Regulations Governing University Awards.

Okanagan University College Legacy Entrance Scholarship

Scholarships of $5,000 each, renewable for one year, are offered to students entering the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO) who have completed a program of study at Okanagan College (OC).

Eligibility

Candidates for the scholarship must demonstrate the following criteria:

  • Have been enrolled in full-time studies at OC during the previous 2023/24 academic year (September to April)
  • Have completed a program of study at OC
  • Have applied for admission to UBCO for the 2024/25 academic year and be entering UBCO for the first time from OC
  • Be entering UBCO with an admission average of 75% or greater
  • Be entering UBCO to complete your first undergraduate degree
  • Be registering in a minimum of 24 credits (minimum 9 credits per term) for the 2024/25 academic session at UBCO
  • Be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
  • Meet the award criteria as outlined in the Senate Regulations Governing University Awards.

2024 OUC Legacy Entrance Scholarship Application

Note: On the online application, you will need to attach a copy of your final transcript to show that you have successfully completed an academic program at Okanagan College (OC). To be considered for the scholarship, your OC transcript must include the notation, “Degree Awarded” followed by the name of the program and the date of conferral.
