Full-time funding for out-of-province students

If you are from a province or territory other than BC, you’re eligible to receive government student loan assistance by applying through your home province or territory.

Your home province or territory is generally where you lived for 12 consecutive months (excluding months of full-time post-secondary study) before attending UBC, depending on whether you are a dependent or an independent student. Learn how to determine your province of residency.

Check your course load requirements to find out if you are registered in an eligible course load for meeting and maintaining the full-time requirements for your loan province.

How to apply

Select your home province or territory from the list below to view the eligibility requirements, processing times and application process that is specific to you.

Note for OSAP students: UBC no longer requires a paper copy of your Program Information Form (PIF). We receive this information automatically from OSAP once you have completed your online application.

Automatic Tuition Deferral

Eligible graduate and undergraduate students will automatically have fees deferred for one month after the tuition fee deadline in September or January. You are eligible for automatic tuition deferral if you meet both requirements:

  • You submit a complete full-time loan application by the following dates:
    • Jul 31 for a loan beginning in September (Winter Session Term 1)
    • Nov 15 for a loan beginning in January (Winter Session Term 2)
    • Apr 15 for a loan beginning in May (Summer Session)
  • You are eligible for funding to pay your tuition and fees.
