Applying to graduate

Please note: The program completion dates, application open dates, and application deadlines listed on this webpage apply to undergraduate and Master of Management students only. Graduate students within the College of Graduate Studies have specific dates and deadlines.

The Okanagan Senate approves undergraduate degrees twice annually. Graduate degrees may be approved at any regular meeting of the Senate. Graduation ceremonies (Convocation) are only held in June of each year. All students (undergraduate or graduate) whose degrees are granted throughout the academic year will be invited to attend the following June ceremonies.

If you plan to graduate in Spring 2026, you must apply for graduation by Feb 27, 2026. For important dates and deadlines, refer to the timeline on this page.

Your parchment will be printed with a conferral date of May 2026 and will be available at or after the Spring graduation ceremonies. Your parchment refers to your diploma.

Spring Graduation in May 2026

Application period Early January 2026 to Fri, February 27, 2026.

These dates apply to both the Graduation Application and the Program Completion Application.

Degree requirements must be completed by End of April 2026

Your Program of Study Status in Workday will be updated from “Pending Completion” to “Complete”.

Fall Graduation in November 2026

Application period Mid-June 2026 to August 28, 2026

These dates will apply to both the Graduation Application and the Program Completion Application.

Degree requirements must be completed by Fri, October 30, 2026

If you are completing Term 1 courses in December, you are not eligible for November graduation and should wait to apply for May graduation.

Degree conferred (awarded) and credential added to UBC record Late November 2026
 
Your program of study status on Workday will be updated from “Pending completion” to “Complete”.

Later graduation periods

If you don’t apply for the graduation period after you complete your requirements, you can apply in the following period.

How to apply to graduate

In order to graduate, students must complete a formal application process that consists of two components:

You are required to complete both the Graduation Application and the Program Completion Application, even if you don’t plan on attending the ceremony.

While completing the application process, check your legal name and your listed specializations for accuracy. Contact gradapps.okanagan@ubc.ca if there are any errors.

Note: UBC has no graduation fee.

Using your preferred name for the Graduation Ceremony

Your preferred name will be used during the graduation ceremony, as well as in the graduation program and all public facing communication. You can review your preferred name while completing your Graduation Application.

Preferred name changes need to be made in Workday before the application period is completed.

Getting your parchment (diploma)

Normally, you will receive your original parchment at your in-person graduation ceremony.

If you’re not attending the ceremony

You can choose to pick up your parchment or pay for courier delivery in early June or December. Learn more.

Already received your parchment? You can order a replacement or copy of your original parchment by accessing the UBC Official Documents tool with your Campus Wide Login (CWL) from within Workday, or you can directly log in to the UBC Official Documents tool. Learn more about ordering parchments.
