UBC Okanagan offers a wide variety of study options for the summer months.

Summer study course options

Are you a current student considering summer courses?

  • Students are automatically eligible to take summer courses and can register in late February/early March. See the Registration dates page for more information.
  • Students are notified of their registration date and time approximately two weeks before registration opens
  • The summer schedule is normally posted early in the new year
  • Students can register in a maximum of 12 credits in the Summer Session (May to August)
  • The course schedule is subject to change; check for updates frequently

UBC Okanagan campus

Login to Workday and navigate to the Academics App. Under the Registration and Courses tab, click “Find Course Sections”. In the pop-up window, enter the academic term you are researching (e.g. 2025 Summer Session (UBC-O)”.

In Workday, both Summer Term 1 and Term 2 courses will appear under the “Summer Session” academic term. View the step-by-step tutorial on viewing the course schedule.

Global Seminar Programs

Want to study abroad, but prefer to travel and study with a group? Is there a particular region or topic you want to learn more about that isn’t currently offered through other UBC programs? A Global Seminar might be the right choice for you.

Global Seminars are each unique in terms of location, course content, length, and cost.

Global Seminars offer you the chance to take UBC credit courses taught by UBC faculty members in an international location. These programs run in the summer but can still allow you to return home and have a summer job.

Our partner universities around the world offer many summer programs that allow you to study abroad at a prestigious university without interrupting your winter semester course load. You could also add a summer term of study before you begin your winter exchange.

Off-campus study options

UBC’s Vancouver campus

To take courses on the Vancouver campus, students must receive approval for cross-campus registration. Before submitting a cross-campus request form, be sure to check to see if the course(s) will work towards your Okanagan degree requirements using the UBC Equivalency site.

To research Vancouver Summer courses, login to Workday and navigate to the Academics App. Under the Registration and Courses tab, click “Find Course Sections”. In the pop-up window, enter the academic term you are researching and be sure to select the Vancouver campus (e.g. 2025 Summer Session (UBC-V)”. Note: Approval is not guaranteed; if approved, you will be registered by the Vancouver faculty once all UBC Vancouver students have registered.

Post-secondary institutions other than UBC

Follow the steps below to ensure you are eligible to study at another post-secondary institution.

Note: Students must receive permission from their faculty before registering in courses outside of UBC.

Step one: Determine academic standing
Ensure you are a student in good academic standing.

Step two: Pick an institution and transferable courses
Research course options at other institutions and check the bctransferguide.ca to ensure the course will transfer.

Step three: Contact an Academic & Career Advisor
Consult Academic & Career Advising with your course selection.

Step four: Complete a Letter of Permission (LOP)
Complete a Letter of Permission by Faculty or School.

Step five: Send your transcripts
Upon completion of your course, have your transcript sent to:
