Your one-stop-shop for free and flexible learning supports and resources.

The Student Learning Hub’s free and flexible supports are for everyone. We invite UBCO students from all disciplines and year levels to access a range of supports from peers and professionals that include tutoring in math, sciences, languages, and writing, as well as help with study skills and learning strategies. Visit us early and often to build the skills, strategies, and behaviours that are essential to being a confident and independent learner.

What to expect in the Student Learning Hub

When you arrive

Have an appointment with a tutor or writing consultant?
Take a seat on the blue couches at the front of the space and an SLH staff member will call your name.  

Meeting with a learning strategist?
Take a seat on the blue couches at the back of the space and the learning strategist will call your name.

Have a question or need help booking an appointment?
Ask the person at the front desk. If no one is there, ask a staff member wearing a red lanyard.

While in the space 

  • Keep noise at a reasonable volume. This is a shared space used for many different purposes including independent study, consultations, and small group discussions.  
  • Study independently or in small groups.  
  • Use headphones while listening to media. 
  • Enjoy snacks and beverages but check in with others nearby for allergies when consuming nuts, citrus, or seafood.  
  • Tidy up after yourself and be respectful of others.  
  • Check out our puzzle and colouring book collections and take a study break. 
  • Charge your devices using outlets on the walls and bench seating.  
  • Use the accessible and gender-neutral washroom near the entrance. 
  • Help yourself to snacks and coffee at the front of the space when it’s available.  
  • Let us know if there’s been a spill.  
  • There’s no water refill station in the Student Learning Hub. The closest stations are in the Science building or the Commons building.

Virtually explore the Student Learning Hub  

This 360-degree tour of the Student Learning Hub allows you to gain a sense of our space before you visit. The tour begins at the west side entrance of the library building. Navigate up the stairs to the second floor and enter the hallway to the Student Learning Hub.

Accessibility  

Elevator access  

  • There is an elevator to the Student Learning Hub in the west side entrance of the Library building, which is across from the Fipke building.  
  • The elevator can access the SLH during our open hours.  
  • If the elevator is out of service or there is a problem with accessing the SLH via the elevator, please visit the library service desk on the main floor of the library and they can help you access the SLH.

  • There is an accessible and gender-neutral washroom within the Student Learning Hub.  
  • The covered blue seats on either end of the centre row are priority seating for people who use mobility aids.  
  • Aisles should be kept clear but let a staff member wearing a red lanyard know if there is an obstruction.

Featured event: Exam Jam 

  • Usually occurs twice in winter term 1 and once in winter term 2.  
  • Includes various supportive activities and opportunities to help you prepare for exams.   
  • Someone at the front table is available to help if you would like drop-in support at any point and as many times as you would like throughout the event. 
  • There will be coffee and snacks available for everyone to enjoy. Common dietary categories are labeled. Let a Student Learning Hub employee know if you have any allergen questions or if something needs to be refilled.
