GLobal Education Week

Global Education Week is an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to learn about all the ways they can engage around the world. As part of Global Education Week, the Global Engagement Office will be running several interactive events and presentations to recognize our international student body, intercultural learning, promote study abroad opportunities, and highlight internationalization efforts on our campus. Check out the schedule below!

GEW – Week Long Programming

Global Education Week 2022: Global Literature Library Display (October 31 – November 5)

  • Check out the week-long display of featured global literature near the UBCO library 106B.

Global Education Week 2022: GEW 2022 Passport

  • As part of Global Education Week 2022, students are able to get their passports stamped by attending certain events or complete certain objectives over the course of the week can get their passports stamped. The more stamps a student collects, the more likely they will be able to win one of the many Global Education Week 2022 giveaway prizes.
  • Prizes include a Samsung S6 Tablet (Lite), JBL Noise Cancelling Headphones and a Travel Essentials Pack with UBC Swag – Learn more.

Global Education Week 2022: Photo Contest Exhibition

  • As part of Global Education Week 2022, students, faculty, and staff can submit travel photos that show their experience studying, working, volunteering, or travelling in Canada or anywhere on the globe. Photos will be displayed in the EME Foyer during Global Education Week from November 1 to 4, where participants can view and vote for their favourite photos.
  • Prizes include 1 of 6 Air Canada gift cards

Día de los Muertos Day of the Dead (October 31 – November 5)

  • Time & Location: All Day (Lib 106B)
  • Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a cultural celebration of life primarily celebrated in Mexico. Visit the altar to commemorate those who have passed and learn about this cultural celebration. Learn more

  • Come and join the campus community for the kick off of Global Education Week

BollyWood Dancing Workshop

  • Time & Location: 6pm – 7:30pm (Hangar Studio 1)

November 2 (Wednesday)

Funding for Study, Research and Internships in Germany – 10am

  • (Online Session) – sign up HERE
  • Join DAAD – German Academic Exchange Service for this information session detailing their scholarship and grant programs in support of study, research and internships in Germany, including the popular RISE program, a research internship opportunity for students in the sciences and engineering.
  • DAAD has programs for students at all stages (Bachelor, Master’s, PhD) and in all fields. Get program details and answers to your questions & find out how to apply and improve your application’s chances for success.

Kaffee Und Kuchen

  • Time & Location: 1:30  pm – 3pm (EME 020 – Lower Foyer)
  • Come and join us for an afternoon break – “Kaffee und kuchen” (coffee and cake) is a traditional German afternoon ritual where friends, family, or coworkers will meet for an hour or two to enjoy coffee, cake, and socializing. Authentic desserts will be provided by Two Donkeys Bakery 

Hygge Day

  • Time & Location: 6pm – 8pm (Global Collegia EME 0250)
  • Come get cozy! Wear your comfy clothes, there will be snacks and drinks provided. 
  • Hard to explain and even harder to pronounce, the Danish word “hygge” (pronounced “hoo-gah”) has exploded in popularity around the world. It translates roughly to “cosiness,” but it means so much more than that. So what is hygge, really? Read on to find out!

latin dance performance

  • Time & Location: 3pm – 3:30pm (EME 0020 – Lower Foyer)
  • Okanagan Mexican Folklore Dance Group, the first Mexican dance group in the Okanagan region, is proud to share a part of their culture through it s dance performance.

November 4 (Friday)

Taste of home

  • Time & Location: 12:00 PM — 2:00 PM (EME 0020 – Lower Foyer)
  • International students prepare and share dishes that remind them of home 

International Movie Night

  • Time & Location: 6pm – 8pm (SUO Theater)
  • Free snacks and drinks provided
