Learning resources available to your student

We encourage all undergraduate students to explore the learning resources and support services available to them early and often in order for them to build the skills, strategies, and behaviours that are essential to becoming a confident, independent learner.

Brush up over the summer

Academic Essentials includes three, free, not-for-credit online courses to support your student with academic readiness, refreshing concepts and fundamentals in math and academic reading and writing, and their transition to UBC.

The Student Learning Hub

With all services now fully online, the Student Learning Hub is the one-stop-shop for learning support that is not only free, but flexible, accessible, and catered to your student’s individual needs.

Aboriginal Programs and Services

Aboriginal Programs and Services offers free tutoring for students in a number of different disciplines.

UBC Okanagan Library

Your student now has access to one of the largest research collections in Canada with journal articles and books to support every subject studied at UBC. The UBC Okanagan Library is the place to begin your university level research.

  • Each discipline has a related subject librarian available to assist with citations, starting research, developing search strategies, evaluating sources, and more. Subject librarians are working remotely, and are committed to helping you to navigate university level research.
  • AskAway is a virtual chat service that is available through all the post-secondary institutions in British Columbia and is an easy way to ask library questions remotely.
  • If your student is located in the Okanagan, they can access print and AV materials from the Okanagan Library’s collection.

Office hours

Encourage your student to connect with their professors and teaching assistants during office hours as it is a great way for them to get to know their instructors and get extra help.
