In collaboration with the University of East Anglia (Norwich, England), we have created a five-week program (including two weeks in England) focused on community-based work to align with the objectives of Management 490 offered at UBC Okanagan. Students will be living on campus and working with British companies on a consultancy project. Prior to departure, students will spend one week (part-time, synchronous) preparing for the experience and following the UK portion, students will finalize their work for two weeks (part-time, asynchronous). Please see below for a more detailed description.

Week 1 (online, synchronous)
Before departing, you’ll engage in pre-trip reading, attend online lectures, and participate in discussions to set the foundation for your capstone experience abroad.
Week 2 & 3 (Norwich, England)
During the 2-week program, participating students will work closely on a business consultancy project, specifically relating to their allocated client’s requirement brief. UEA’s Research and Innovation partnerships team works closely with the University’s connections to find suitable clients for each bespoke project, to meet the needs of the learning outcomes. Students will consult professionally, interview and discuss with their client and undertake secondary research into the key aspects of the objectives of the brief, to make recommendations during a final presentation.
They will work collectively in study sessions, preparing a written report and final presentation, expecting to work in the region of 100 hours on the project, including completion of the final written report. During the 2-week program, this will involve working on and off the University premises, representing both universities at client locations and during an off-campus academic business trip. The oral presentation will be delivered in boardroom-style, to the client(s) and is expected to be accompanied by a written report [UBC to determine deadline for the written report, which will also be shared with the client(s), if retrospective to the end of the 2-week program). The academic program is designed and directed by Norwich Business School, working closely with the visiting academic staff of UBC, to meet the required academic outcomes.
Students are encouraged consider the personal and professional skills and knowledge they will develop during the program, and to reflect on how these will benefit their ongoing and future studies and careers.
Weeks 4 & 5 (online, asynchronous)
After the trip, the learning journey continues as you return home with newfound knowledge and experiences. You will be provided with dedicated time to work on individual and group projects and assignments, allowing you to further reflect on and apply the insights gained during the trip.
