UBC Okanagan Student Involvement and Leadership Award 

Have you been involved on campus, within your community, or other organizations? UBC Okanagan, in partnership with alumni UBC, wants to recognize and celebrate graduating students who made it their mission to give back and get involved during their time as a student. 

Up to ten award recipients will be selected each year. Recipients will be celebrated at an award reception in April and will receive a $500 financial award, generously sponsored by Valley First Credit Union.  

Who should apply? 

UBC Okanagan students who have been involved on-campus or within their community during their studies at UBC Okanagan should consider applying for this award. Involvement may include on- or off-campus work or volunteering, facilitating mentorship, leadership in clubs or associations, actively participating in events and initiatives, etc.

Award recipients are selected based on demonstrated leadership impact, community involvement, and personal growth, as reflected in their application essays and supporting references. Involvement breadth (multiple, shorter commitments) and depth (fewer, longer commitments) are equally considered in the adjudication process.   

Eligibility 

The following criteria are required to apply: 

  • Students must graduate and have their degrees conferred between September 2025 and August 2026. 
  • Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply.
  • Students must be in good academic standing.

Applications for 2025/2026 award nominations are now open.

The application includes two reflection-based essay questions related to the impact of leadership and community involvement during your studies. You are also required to submit up to four work or volunteer experiences that demonstrate leadership and involvement.

Note: Students can save their application and return to it at any time until the submission deadline.

References

A minimum of one and a maximum of two references are required for your application to be considered. 

Eligible referees include faculty, UBCO staff, employment or volunteer supervisors, or mentors. The reference form is to be completed by the referee and not the student applicant.

The deadline to submit applications and references for the 2025/2026 academic year is Sunday, February 22, 2026, at 11:59 pm PST.
