Black Graduate Pathways Mentorship Program
The Black Graduate Pathways Mentorship Program (BGPM) is a pilot initiative supporting Black undergraduate students at UBC Okanagan in exploring and pursuing pathways to graduate education.
The program will:
- Connect students with mentors including graduate students, alumni, faculty, and staff;
- Provide resources focused on graduate school preparation, research opportunities, funding, and navigating the application process
- Offer workshops, events and social gatherings
Time commitment
The program runs from September 2026 to April 2027 and will serve as a scalable pilot to inform future initiatives supporting Black students’ access to graduate education. Workshops will be scheduled through the academic year, ranging from 1.5 to 2 hours long.
Eligibility
Students eligible to participate in the program include those who:
- Self-identify as Black (including African, Caribbean, Black Canadian, Afro-Latin, other Black diasporic identities)
- Are registered as full-time undergraduate student at UBC’s Okanagan campus
- Are third year standing or above
- Are interested in exploring the pursuit of graduate-level education in the future (e.g., master’s degree, doctoral/PhD degree)
- Can commit to participating in regular programming and workshops
Recognizing the systemic barriers that can affect Black students’ access to graduate education, BGPM aims to make graduate pathways more visible, accessible, and navigable while fostering mentorship, connection, and a strong sense of belonging.
Whether you are already considering graduate studies after completing your undergraduate degree or are still exploring your options, you are encouraged to apply.

Black Mental Wellness Project
