Pathways to Post Secondary
Pathways to Postsecondary is a research initiative at UBC Okanagan that aims to improve access to postsecondary education for equity-deserving community members. This program is designed for:
- First-generation students
- Mature students
- Former Youth in Care
The goal of this program is to help increase access to postsecondary education, understand challenges, and provide support.
First-generation students
A first-generation student is a student whose immediate family members or legal guardians have not completed a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent professional program. This means that you are the first in your family to attend college or university with the goal of obtaining a bachelor’s degree.
UBC defines mature students as anyone who has not attended school (high school or postsecondary) full-time for at least four years.
Youth in Care refers is a term used for individuals who were placed in government care before their nineteenth birthday.
