Motivation to serving those harder days (especially when it’s almost the end of term)

March 31, 2025

There are lots of days where I question my life and have multiple breakdowns in a month, which makes it super hard to stay motivated for classes, ESPECIALLY when you know that there is only less than two weeks of school left. Keeping motivation during these times can be tough, so it’s my job to help you out! Try this stuff to help you finish the school year like a boss (or at least with less crying).

Start by writing things down

The first trick is setting up a goal or a to-do list for the day or even for the week. It gives you a sense of purpose, and checking things off brings a little sense of accomplishment. While doing your goal for the week, also do the “brain dump”; I think you can guess where this is going from the name: Dump all your thoughts, ideas, information, LITERALLY anything that is on your mind on a paper. This “brain dump” concept is to help you organize your thoughts and helps you free up space in your brain for the week ahead.

I’m a firm believer in reward systems

The reward system! Having something to look forward to, like my favorite snack, makes the week a bit easier. On campus, both Starbucks and Tim’s open at 7:30 am (nice and early, right? LOL). So, if you’re like me and fighting through the weeks, we both know how important a little reward can be to look forward to.

Be sure to maintain balance

Okay, I’ll admit this isn’t a “real” tip, but I’ll share it anyway because why not? Go to campus events —They always have snacks! Obviously (very serious tone here), be mindful and respectful because we’re not just showing up for the snacks, but if you’re already there, take advantage of it. Free food is a win! And besides the social connection is a great way to boost your mood because it allows you to break up the day or even shake up your little routine that you are so used to; going to events is one of the ways to push through the school year as it gives u something to look forward to during the week.

Dress to impress

This one might not seem like it would be super impactful, but it always works for me. I love putting on an outfit that makes me feel good (I am so serious; you’re prolly laughing). I know it sounds cliché, but trust me, it’s worth it —even for an 8 am class. A cute outfit makes me feel a little more “put together,” even when I don’t want to. Sure, there are those “comfy” options we all fall back on, but wearing something you love is a to give yourself a confidence boost. And if you’re one of those people who don’t care what you wear, all the power to you— that’s the kind of confidence we all need!

Eat the Frog on Mondays (don’t worry – not literally)

Promise, I am getting to the end of my yap session. Eat the Frog Mondays. It is every Monday from 1 to 4 pm in Nechako. This is a resource to help you (use it, guys!!). It is a place where if you are procrastinating (we have all been there before), whether that is on booking appointments, writing emails, or simply catching up on schoolwork, you can do it with others who are in the same situation; afterwards, you can unwind and relax and even talk to other procrastinators.

See, that was my last yap. Anyway, to end this, I would like to say that whether you’re barely holding on or just looking for that extra motivation to finish strong, remember that you’re not alone (I PROMISE YOU). We’re all in this together (HSM), whether that is pushing through one class, one assignment, or one London fog (plz, don’t judge me; I am obsessed with it) at a time. You got this! And if all else fails, at least there is always next year. Jkjk, SERIOUSLY, I may or may not know you, but I do believe in you to finish the school year strong. I believe.
